Some stories deserve a second chapter.
From 1842 to 1973, Maison Kühne was one of the most prominent fashion houses in the Netherlands. From an iconic building on the Kneuterdijk in The Hague, on the corner of the Plaats, the house acquired international allure as a purveyor to the royal household. In 1937, Maison Kühne crafted the wedding dress for Princess Juliana and the dresses for her bridesmaids. In the post-war years, the house worked with licenses from Dior, Givenchy, and Chanel, and dozens of artisans, from seamstresses to tailors, created pieces that can still be found in museum collections today. In 1973, the doors closed, and for more than fifty years, the house remained silent.
A return with a reason
We are Francesco and Kay Kühne, and for several years we have felt the call to breathe new life into our heritage, not out of nostalgia, but from a sincere conviction: that the world needs more fashion built to last.
We are building on the foundations of our family story—craftsmanship, elegance, attention to the making process—and translating them into a contemporary vision of fashion. Consciously made. Fairly produced. With lasting value.
Luxury that stands for something
We believe that true luxury is visible in the finishing, but felt in the choices that precede it. Who is buying? How was it made? By whom and under what conditions was it produced? To substantiate these critical questions, we work with RWS-certified Merino wool and GOTS-certified cotton. In the near term, we will add a Digital Product Passport with the goal of providing full transparency.
Every collection is entirely manufactured in Italy, in the Latina region south of Rome. Here, we work together with a renowned family atelier that has specialized in high-end menswear for generations. With the greatest possible attention to detail and a sustainable production method, every garment is produced with care. In this way, we combine Dutch heritage with Italian craftsmanship to create clothing that lasts for generations.
Maison Kühne focuses on people who ask these questions. Clients who invest in clothing that not only enhances their personal style, but also aligns with their values. Style and responsibility are not mutually exclusive; they reinforce each other.
That is what we are building. Again. With the same name, a new beginning, and the same dedication to the craft that has always characterized our house.
